Here I'll tell you 5 steps to become a successful freelance web developer and be in that top 10% people who are making crazy earnings through freelance platforms using this niche.

1. Learn trending skills

On any of the freelance platform or in industry also clients starts hiring the people who knows trending skills or have paitence to learn new skills. In 2021-2022 if we see javascript and its libraries are mostly used and used by many freelance web developers for making projects. As if we see some years ago HTML and CSS is to be used by many people to make their projects. Today also many one's uses HTML and CSS but not that much. Now-a-days, many diffrent skills taken entry in web development niche and are on fire this days.

Freelance frontend developer is the one who designs UI of website and can make it responsive as well. Some of the trending frontend skills you should learn in 2021-2022 are:

  • Javascript and its Libraries mainly React js, Vue js and Next js
  • HTML5 and CSS3
  • Cross-browser and device testing
  • Web performance optimization (WPO)
  • Search engine optimization (SEO)
  • RESTful Services and APIs
  • Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • AJAX, DOM Manipulation
  • A freelace backend developer is one who makes use of the technology required to develop the products for the backend of any website. Some of the skills you should in 2021-2022 for backend development are:

  • Python
  • Java
  • Databases like Mongo DB, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis
  • Node package manager (NPM), Node js
  • Express js
  • Ruby
  • .Net
  • At last, a freelance full stack developer is the one who can build full stack web applications using all the above mentioned technologies. A Full Stack Developer is someone who works with the Back End — or server side — of the application as well as the Front End, or client side. Full Stack Developers have to have some skills in a wide variety of coding niches, from databases to graphic design and UI/UX management in order to do their job well.

On Fiverr freelance platform mostly you can earn from $5 to $1000 per gig based on your knowledge and skills. And on other platforms like freelancer.com, upwork etc you can really make starting from $10 upto $1000 per project.

    2. Build your own personal brand

If you are not getting clients on freelance platform you starts feeling like..ohh I don't have enough skills after learning enough skills tough, or this is not my type of work. Isn't it?? Or feel like after learning skills too and on any freelance platform you got a project and client asks you, Do you have portfolio website?? Or done any projects before?? and you don't have any then, it will put bad impression on client and you starts loosing your self confidence tough.

Then here's the personal brand role comes into play. If you have your own brand website, or your portfolio website, or any web development agency you started online then, it will put a good and professional impression on your client. And also if you are not getting any clients on freelancer platforms, clients can also search you or find you by online way if you have you personal brand created on any platforms like:

  • Quora
  • Twitter
  • Instagram etc
  • If you don't have the one till now, Start building it, hustle. Hustle is the only option to succeed in life. And after making your brand website you can also put it to google adsense, you can run ads through it, it can also helps to get more freelancing clients and by google adsense you generate some revenue too.

    3. Start getting experience, project by project

The only one hard thing ever freelance web developer faces is getting their first client, same situation was with me too. But, once you got your first client after following steps mentioned above, getting next clients is not that much hard as you get reviews on your profile and clients hires the one consistently who has maximum reviews and experience.

Start doing projects, sometimes working free for first few clients to get reviews and experience is also important when you are not getting any clients. As you will do more and more projects you can build your Portfolio, CV, Resumes etc also.

As Joshua Kemp writes in his blog, Confessions Of An Unlikely Developer: “Find a friend with a TINY small business (any business), or you can just find a crappy old site that needs a serious facelift.”

As you do more and more projects you'll get to learn how to handle clients, to find out what they will expect from you, how to handle pressure, how to build project as per clients requirements etc.

    4. Increase your networking

Increase your networking means I've to say start building your network. The bigger your circle I mean your network will the number to clients will be in huge number .

You can advertise about your brand, promote it through youtube, instagram, facebook, twitter etc. Facebook has many groups also of freelancing just all you need to do is search in facebook about freelancing you will get many groups, you can join that and promote your service, your can create instagram page for promoting your service same on linkedln too etc etc. This will helps you in getting more number of clients and in building your network.

You can increase your network through quora platform also. It also has huge number of people active everyday. May you can get clients through quora also.

    5. Be confident, express yourself !!

Be confident, its ok it are not getting clients you will get just don't loose hope be focused, work consistently on your brand. Its ok it you get bad review, that not means that now you will get only bad review, everyone once in a life or sometimes more than that too times faces bad review or bad client but don't loose hope, "Say okay to yourself, I'll improve myself".

You can really make money, freelance Web developers make between $31 to $42 per hour, with the average being $36 per hour, according to Salary.com. The caveat is that this number includes all web developers, including those who work in-house at agencies. Freelancers make higher hourly rates because they have more overhead expenses.

Just stay consistent, be online, talk to client, always try to say thank you and improve yourself and every mistake that's all you'll win in freelance web developer journey.

    BEST LUCK !!!

    Conclusion

If you followed above steps you can become a successful freelance web developer. Just stay confident and always try to learn something, try to learn new skills it will help you in getting more and more clients as you will get more and more knowledge.
